Patti Kagan

Founder

Patricia “Patti” Kagan, aka “mrspk,” a native Houstonian, grew up in an “atomic ranch” style home, furnished with iconic mid-century modern furniture. mrspk’s current modern home in Houston has been carefully curated by utilizing mid-century vintage modern pieces from mrspk’s childhood home as part of the design process. While acquiring vintage 20th century modern furniture for a vacation home in Colorado, Kagan was inspired to turn her passion of collecting these historic design treasures into a business now located on Portsmouth in the Upper Kirby District, Houston. Houston, to Kagan, is the “Emerald City” where all things are possible and the inspiration for the name, mrspk&oz, came from the belief that Houston is Kagan’s “Oz,” where if you are talented and work hard, all things are possible!

20th Century Modernist Education

Patricia Kagan, aka mrspk, graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. in Liberal Arts from The University of Texas and a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law. Kagan is well versed in the art of research. Kagan’s approach is to offer clients an education on the aesthetic as well as monetary value in collecting from the 20th century modernist design period.

Trending in 20th Century Modernist Design

Along with offering an education regarding aesthetic and value from the 20th century modernist design period, Kagan follows the trends in furniture design. Weekly research through a multitude of sources is performed and compiled each week to stay on and ahead of the trend in all things design, from furniture to color to materials used in the manufacture of furniture and décor.

Design Touch

Of course, staying on and ahead of the trend allows mrspk plenty of creative opportunity to add her own signature design touch when refurbishing 20th century vintage modernist design pieces. Kagan follows 20th century designers of the “Hollywood Regency” aka “Hollywood Glam” period, such as Dorothy Draper and Grosfeld House, by adding shiny lacquers to furniture pieces. Kagan also follows the mid 20th century masters of Harvey Probber and Karl Springer by adding luxe and exotic materials to 20th century vintage modernist pieces.
